Oklahoma gin rules
Everything is the same as standard gin rummy, with these changes (as described by Pagat.com):
- The knock limit is the value of the first up card. If the up card is a 7, you need 7 or less to knock. A jack, queen or king means 10. An ace means 1.
- A spade up card doubles the hand. The whole score of that hand, including gin and undercut bonuses, counts double.
- The game is to 150 instead of 100.
On the table the limit for the current hand is shown next to the discard pile, together with “Spade: ×2” when the hand counts double.
House rules you may meet
- Some play that an ace up card means you can only go out with gin.
- Some give extra boxes: one for an undercut and two for gin (doubled with a spade up card).
This game uses the main rule above: an ace sets the limit to 1, and there are no extra boxes.
Tips for Oklahoma gin
- With a low up card, the hand will usually end with gin or a very low knock, so build complete melds and dump high cards quickly.
- A spade up card makes the hand worth double: an undercut costs twice as much.
